How long does it take to install a security door?

A security door can usually be set up in a few hours when installed by a professional. Whether you can or should install a security door yourself depends on a few factors which we will get into later.

So, how long does it take to install a security door? This short blog will cover the factors that affect installation time and provide a general installation timeline to give customers a better idea of what to expect.

Many factors may influence or halt installation time. These include things like weather, door size, security door type, experience, or custom door fittings.

Extreme weather can make installation more difficult or unsafe, larger doors take longer to install, and different types of security doors have different installation processes. The installer’s experience and materials used can also speed up or slow down the process.  

Security door installation happens in three stages: pre-installation, installation (during), and post-installation.

Pre-installation involves a primary inspection to measure the door frame, assess the installation site, and address any additional requirements. This stage can take anywhere between 30 mins to 1 hour. Once measurements are taken and the door is made, installation can begin.

The actual installation stage can take as long as 2 to 4 hours. Old doors will need to be removed, some are more stubborn than others. The security door must be installed and properly aligned before it is finally secured into place.

After it’s installed, the door will be tested to make sure it opens, closes, and locks correctly. Post-installation can take 30 minutes to 1 hour, any necessary adjustments can be made at this stage. 

While customers may elect to install their new security door themselves, this may not always be the best idea. Installing a security door should be left to professionals as installing it improperly can leave your home or property more vulnerable.
