Is Crimsafe worth the money?

Installing Crimsafe security doors is an investment into your home’s protection. As such, you’ll want to be sure you are getting good value for your money.

For example, you would expect your screens to be made of tough stuff, to be virtually impenetrable, and to last a long time.

Crimsafe is a reputable brand, and not the cheapest option out there. So, is it worth the higher cost to help burglar proof your home? Let’s take a look.

Key insights

  • Crimsafe security doors deliver premium protection using 0.9mm Tensile-Tuff® stainless steel mesh — 26.5% thicker than competitors — making them virtually impenetrable while maintaining airflow and visibility.

  • Patented Screw-Clamp™ technology and tamper-proof screws securely fasten the mesh into the aluminium frame, providing unmatched resistance to forced entry and tampering.

  • Crimsafe doors meet all six Australian Standard AS5041 security tests, including knife shear, impact, anti-jemmy, and probe tests, proving their superior strength and reliability.

  • Additional benefits include UV and heat reduction (up to 62% UV protection and 53% solar gain reduction), corrosion resistance, and long warranties of up to 15 years — ensuring long-term durability and performance.

  • While not the cheapest option, Crimsafe represents excellent long-term value, offering proven security, aesthetic appeal, and trusted performance backed by decades of industry reputation.

Materials and features

Crimsafe doors offer the following:

  • Robust 0.9mm anti-corrosive stainless steel woven mesh for the screens. Crimsafe’s patented Tensile-Tuff mesh is thicker than most security mesh screens by about a quarter, making it very hard to cut or penetrate.

  • 3-point locking mechanism – this provides three times the protection compared to standard deadbolts and helps prevent the door being wrenched off.

  • Patented screw-clamp technology and tamper-proof screws to fix the screen into the aluminium frame. This makes it extremely difficult to remove the screen.

  • Airflow and views – allowing you to leave your main doors or windows open (e.g. to create cooling cross-breezes).

  • Long warranties – 10-15 years depending on the model.

  • Variety of product options, and a wide range of applications including hinged, sliding and French doors and more.

Are Crimsafe screens worth It?

Crimsafe screens are arguably worthwhile as they provide superior home security without compromising on aesthetics or ventilation. The patented Screw-Clamp™ technology used by Crimsafe makes it almost impossible for intruders to break through, while still allowing fresh air and natural light into your home. Additionally, Crimsafe screens are highly durable and resistant to corrosion, making them a long-term investment in your home’s security. With Crimsafe, you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved ones and belongings are protected from potential intruders.

Crimsafe benefits

Crimsafe can also provide up to 62% UV protection and prevent solar gain by up to 53%, making the products a great option for the summer.

Not all doors that are described as security screens are necessarily that. For example, genuine security screen doors must pass a number of tests to fit the official definition and meet Australian standards. The same applies to window security grilles.

So it’s important not to be taken in by cheap knock-offs or ‘security doors’ that are not what they claim.

The tests include:

Knife Shear – assesses the mesh against repeated knife attacks.

Dynamic Impact – involves striking the door with a 40kg weighted bag five times over.

Pull test – to check whether a screen can be removed from the frame using an instrument such as a screwdriver or lever.

Anti-jemmy – tests whether the door can be prised open or removed with a lever.

Probe test – this one evaluates whether an intruder can reach in to unlock a door after having first made a gap.

Shear test – determines whether a screen can be cut using a cutting plier.

To meet Australian Standard AS5041, a security door must pass all six tests listed here.

Crimsafe passes them all with flying colours. It also passes the 3,000 hour salt-spray test, showing the product materials are highly resistant to corrosion, and meets bushfire and cyclone protection ratings as well.
